A podiatrist is a medical specialist who diagnoses and treats foot disorders both medically and surgically. A podiatrist has completed 4 years of college; 4 years at a school of podiatric medicine; 2-3 years of surgical residency; and a state board exam. Though their main concern is foot care, podiatrists are also aware of the total health care needs of the patient.
Dr James P. Ioli graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. After receiving his doctorate, he completed a 2-year postgraduate residency program in Podiatric Medicine and Foot Surgery through the Central New England Podiatry Residency Program. Dr. Ioli is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABPS), Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine (ABPOPPM). He is a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. He is Chief, Division of Podiatry, Department of Orthopedics at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is an active member of both the American and Massachusetts Podiatric Medical Associations. His primary areas of interest are foot surgery, diabetic and arthritic disorders and sports medicine.
