The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy provides a full range of services for adult and adolescent patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, biliary tree and liver. Ambulatory services include specialty clinics for patients with pancreatic disease, biliary disease, liver disease (evaluation for liver transplantation offered through the combined BWH and MGH Liver Transplant Program), inflammatory bowel disease and GI oncology.

Endoscopic services include interventional management of upper and lower GI bleeding, benign and malignant pancreatic and biliary disease, portal hypertension, benign and malignant esophageal disease, advanced techniques for endoscopic diagnosis and palliation of tumors (e.g., colon cancer), evaluation of tumors with endoscopic ultrasound, and treatment of tumors with laser photocoagulation. A GI physiology center provides esophageal, pancreatobiliary and anorectal motility, 24-hour esophageal pH, and tests of intestinal absorption, gastric and pancreatic function. An integrated approach is coordinated with the Departments of Surgery and Radiology.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy is committed to the hospital's mission to expand the boundaries of gastroenterology diagnosis, treatment and related medicine through research. We seek to advance continually our understanding of patients' gastroenterology symptoms and problems at all levels, and continue to bring forth new, innovative, safer and more effective methods of treatment.
