A joint program of BWH's Shapiro Cardiovascular Center and Children's Hospital, the Boston Adult Congenital Heart Service provides long-term care of patients age 16 and older with congenital heart disease and related illnesses. It is staffed by cardiologists trained in both adult and pediatric congenital heart disease working with a multidisciplinary team.
Repairs include atrial septal defects with closure often achieved with outpatient catheter-based techniques, ventricular septal defects, coarctation of the aorta, valvular repair or replacement in the young, and treatment of Fallot's tetralogy.
