Radiation is an indispensable tool in the medical environment used in diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries. The presence and use of radiation in an open environment requires strict controls which are mandated by the Federal and state government. The Brigham & Women's Hospital (BWH) is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Department of Public Health to use sources of radiation for healthcare and laboratory research purposes. The use of radiation sources is overseen by the BWH Radiation Safety Committee which is comprised of physicians, physicists, researchers, nursing staff and senior administration. The Department of Health Physics trains hospital staff on radiation safety, monitors the use of radiation throughout the hospital, and is a resource to physicians and staff on the safe use of radiation.
This website provides access to the resources such as forms, applications and procedures that are needed by BWH staff and physicians to comply with BWH policies and state regulations. This website also provides staff with the links needed to register for training, request equipment, and other items.
