The oldest continuous midwifery practice in Massachusetts, The Midwifery Group at Brigham and Women’s Hospital welcomes more than 1,000 babies per year, offering continuous, 24-hour, in-hospital coverage for labor, delivery and triage. An integral part of the Brigham and Women’s Center for Women and Newborns, our midwives are certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and licensed by the state of Massachusetts.
An all-female group, the Midwifery Group provides:
-
-
Midwifery care during labor;
-
-
Family planning and wellness education.
We are proud of our long tradition of providing sensitive, thorough care for women, and our care principle is based on the midwifery philosophy that childbirth is a normal process. We incorporate the most recent and sophisticated medical practices into our care as needed, and we provide first-language prenatal care in Spanish, French and Russian to our patients.
Our patients come not only from eastern Massachusetts, but from over 48 different countries and throughout the United States. We also provide community-based, accessible care to Boston’s inner city neighborhoods – including nine Boston neighborhood health centers and Brigham and Women’s adolescent clinic. Our nurse midwives also provide continuity of care within systems that are dedicated to addressing the increasingly complex social and medical needs of these women and their communities.
