The Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of patients who have problems with memory, executive functions, attention, language, emotion, or behavior due to disease, injury, or developmental disorders of the central nervous system. Patients recieve the highest standard of neurological, psychiatric, and social work care for the treatment of their conditions.
Our Memory Disorder Unit provides a state-of-the-art diagnostic workup and treatment of all forms of dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Our Alzheimer's disease Clinical Research program provides the opportunity for individuals to become involved in clinical trials testing potential treatments for Alzeimer's disease, neuroimaging, and related studies for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

The Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology offers expertise in several fields of neurology.
Our services include:
Behavioral Neurology – Evaluation by a neurologist with special expertise in higher cortical functions, who assesses and integrates neurologic, medical, and neuropsychological information to formulate a comprehensive treatment plan.
Neuropsychology – Evaluation by a psychologist with specialized training in the neurological foundations of cognition, behavior, and emotion, who provides a detailed assessment of cognitive and psychological function for the purpose of diagnosis and rehabilitation.
Neuropsychiatry – Evaluation by a psychiatrist with specialized training in brain behavior relationships, who assess psychiatric and behavioral symptoms due to brain lesions leading to areas of dysfunction and then develops psychopharmacological and behavioral intervention strategies.
Social Work – Evaluation by a social worker who specializes in the psychosocial issues related to neurological conditions and provides patient and family advocacy, appropriates resources and benefits, lifespan planning, and supportive counseling.

Fellowship Programs
Behavioral Neurology/ Neuropsychiatry Fellowship- Our fellowship program provides intensive training in both classical and newly developing approaches to cognitive and behavioral neurology/neuropsychiatry. Fellows learn how to comprehensively evaluate and treat patients with complex neurobehavioral and emotional problems associated with a range of disorders, including dementia, stroke, head trauma, epilepsy, brain tumors, M.S., and developmental syndromes. Current Clinical Trials and Research Studies
The Division includes an active clinical research unit focused on early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and cognitive changes in aging. The group conducts FDA- and NIH-sponsored clinical trials of potential new therapies for Alzheimer's disease, as well as brain imaging, brain function, and neuropsychological studies in aging, mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease.
