Lupus

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital Lupus Center provides expert collaborative care from experienced and dedicated rheumatologists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome, a related clotting disorder.

The Lupus Center incorporates the strengths of eight board-certified rheumatologists to care for more than 500 patients with lupus each year. All the members of this dedicated team are researchers with a specialized interest in advancing the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, and they all serve as faculty at Harvard Medical School.

Our Lupus Center staff also works collaboratively with BWH specialists in neurology, dermatology, nephrology and cardiology.

Our Services

There currently is no cure for lupus, but it can be controlled. After providing our patients with a comprehensive evaluation, we develop an appropriate treatment plan. At Brigham and Women’s Hospital Lupus Center, patients have access to the latest treatment options for lupus, including:

• Immunosuppression (suppressing immune system abnormalities responsible for tissue inflammation)
• Targeted B-cell therapies (medications directed against white blood cells that produce antibodies)
